Rum Cake History

This family “heirloom” recipe was brought to this country by my Italian ancestors. They immigrated in 1900 through Ellis Island and settled in N.Y.C. The recipe was lost and then found by my mother who further passed it down to me and so this “heirloom” was reborn. In 1985, I started Butterfly Butter-Rum Cakes from a recipe handed down through nine generations of family originating in Italy. Although only a hobby, my goal was to bake the absolute richest, most genuinely flavorful “Old World” rum liquor cake. Today, thousands of cakes later, I continue to make the same commitment toward excellence. Each cake, a work of art and love, is personally created and uniquely “dressed” is exquisite continental style for gift giving.
